Du Bassin Sauvage & Découvrez. Écoutez. Créez. Art Exhibits At Cite des Arts

April 6th - April 30th
Having been created with passion by Cajuns from both sides of the Atchafalaya Basin, paintings and mixed media works in Du Bassin Sauvage feature figures and creatures that exist in symbolic narratives of emotionally charged experiences that remain beautifully authentic. Themes of reclamation and culture from south Louisiana run concurrently through this two-person exhibit of Louisiana artists Gabrielle Savoy and Jonathan "feral opossum" Mayers

"Drecouvrez. coutez. Crreez." (Discover. Listen. Create) inaugural public art series invites you to fully experience a comprehensive collection of 3 masterful Louisiana Musicians. Each one- their own story, their own sound, their own love of the Louisiana roots. Each musician is painted on a Magic: The Gathering™ trading card, which is inspired by some of my fondest memories growing up playing Magic. After listening you will get the chance to create your own graffiti art

Back to the Future Party

October 21st | 6:30 - 10:00pm
This is a ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME event! We're hosting the
Biggest 80s party South Louisiana has ever seen

30 years ago, Back to the Future took us on an era-hopping adventure and remains the RADDEST time-travelin' movie ever made. ...

It was a film (and subsequent franchise) that showed us that where the future was taking us, roads weren't necessary. It would go on to give us an equally heavy duty sequel, which oddly enough became a blueprint for what we expected from a 2015 world. A nostalgia for the past and the future if you will.

Now here we are, just months away from 'the future'...still we have no Hoverboards, flying cars, power laces, JAWS 19 or pizza hydrator. But, that's okay, because we still have one of the greatest films ever made that will be taking us right into Parc International in Downtown Lafayette where we'll be celebrating the future with the BIGGEST 80s PARTY SOUTH LOUSIANA HAS EVER SEEN! A legitimate, once in a lifetime experience.

Burris, Minos the Saint and Reece Sullivan

May 14th | 9:00pm
Seven Horse Tango Music Presents:

What: Burris, Minos the Saint and Reece Sullivan

When: May 14th 9pm

Where: Artmosphere Bistro

Celebrate the end of school, and bring in that summer heat with Burris, Minos the Saint and Reece Sullivan at Artmosphere this Saturday! Lead by Lafayette native, Chris Hochkeppel, Burris has been stirring up crowds in the city since their memorable performance at Festival International de Louisiane 2015. Local singer/songwriter Reece Sullivan will open at 9:30 then Baton Rouge based band Minos the Saint will be closing the night out with their eclectic folk rock sound and high energy show!

Burris: With the release of their debut album this past October, Burris has been creating quite a buzz about the live shows to come in 2016. Recorded at Evangeline Studio in Lafayette with Jerry Lejeune the album "Meant To Be" has been very well received.

"It sounds like living room rock that makes your grandmother cry." - KLSU Radio

"[_]recording each song live at Evangeline Studios. The result is a more authentic sound [_] capturing harmonies between violin and saxophone and blending guitar riffs with a bluesy voice." - 225 Magazine

The nationally touring band has roots spanning from Austin, Texas to Voronezh, Russia. Their soulful, funky sound has been sweeping Baton Rouge and surrounding cities since 2012.

Minos the Saint: Minos the Saint is an eclectic chamber folk band from Baton Rouge, LA. The band's sound is a blend of acoustic folk and symphonic brass, and features accordion, danceable rhythms, and improvisation. Each band member has a diverse musical background, and the result is a fresh brand of experimental-yet-accessible folk rock that uniquely represents Louisiana, and the world. Since the band began playing in 2013, it has shared bills with Phosphorescent, Wild Child, Brass Bed, Cardinal Sons, The Brad Walker Quintet, Crystal Bright & the Silver Hands, Mississippi Rail Co., Prom Date, England in 1819, Belle Adair, The Mercy Brothers, and Rareluth.

Reece Sullivan: Sullivan's songs are forged in the traditions of Americana, Country, and Folk, with lyrics that are ingrained with literary motifs and southern soaked religion. From Arkansas to Tennessee to present day Louisiana, Reece has tromped ever-steady honing his art. He's a mad man with an insatiable hunger in pursuit of the song and the word.

Jason Isbell

December 16, 2016 | 7:30pm
Every once in a while, and not that often, a popular musician comes along whose work is both profoundly personal and evocative of the larger moment, merging the specifics of lived experience in a particular time and place to the realities of our shared journey as a community, a people. The work of such artists as Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, and Kurt Cobain - and now Jason Isbell, I would argue, with his new album Something More Than Free - spreads irresistibly outward from the soul, that private well of vision and emotion, into the broader realm of cultural history, sharpening our ability to see, expanding our ability to feel, and restoring our sense that we belong not only to ourselves but to an extended spiritual family. The songs create a space to be together, and closer together than we were before.

Norwood Recording Co. Presents an Intimate Evening with Peter Mulvey and Special Guest: Clay Parker & Jodi James

April 17, 2016 | 7:00pm
Over the past 20 years, Mulvey has pursued a restless, eclectic path as a writer and musician - immersing himself in Tin PanAlley jazz, modern acoustic, poetry, narrative, and Americana stylings. Relentlessly touring as a headliner - his attitude is, "When you love what you do, you can work all the time," - he has also shared the stage with luminaries such as Emmylou Harris, Richard Thompson, Ani diFranco, Indigo Girls, and Greg Brown, and has attracted an audience that stretches from Anchorage to Amsterdam.

Peter Mulvey began as a self-described "city kid" from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He played, wrote, and sang in bands while studying theatre there, and then traveled to Dublin, Ireland, in 1989, where he learned the trade of the street singer. Returning to the States, he relocated to Boston with two self-released CDs in hand: Brother Rabbit Speaks (1992) and Rain (1994). In Boston he took to playing in the subways as a full-time occupation. The seven hour sessions playing to passers-by and commuters not only strengthened his accomplished guitar playing but also sharpened his innate gifts as a communicator. In a few short years he had made the transition to touring songwriter. He signed with indie upstart Eastern Front Records, released Rapture (1995) and Deep Blue (1997), and threw himself into a life on the road. He quickly released Glencree (1998), recorded live in Ireland.
The road years further seasoned his abilities as a performer. Whether playing solo or with a band in tow, Mulvey has a rare ability to hold an audience's attention and transport them, using wit, humor, and a subtle but sophisticated melodic and harmonic sensibility to gracefully introduce complex and provocative concepts and characters.

Having since resettled back in Milwaukee, Peter has continued his touring life while making seven solo records with Signature Sounds, the venerable singer/songwriter label in western Massachusetts' fertile musical Pioneer Valley. His sixth release, The Trouble With Poets (2000), features the title track which remains among his best-known songs. 2002 brought Ten Thousand Mornings, a CD of cover songs recorded live on Boston's Davis Square subway platform. The name refers to the collective number of commuters' mornings Peter hoped he was entertaining, or touching, in some way. His albums have always maintained the spontaneity and edge of his live performances, including his 2004 Kitchen Radio and 2006 CD, The Knuckleball Suite, both of which were recorded in just a few days with a band of sympathetic co-conspirators. He followed the ensemble vibe of these records with Notes from Elsewhere (2007), which consists of solo acoustic recordings of some of his most popular songs.
