Explorations in Geometric Abstraction is a 4-week investigation into specific methods and processes used in making abstract paintings.
In the 20th century artists such as Piet Mondrian, Josef Albers, Agnes Martin and Frank Stella used geometry as a way of arriving at new ideas about painting. In their seemingly simple results, there is much to explore in their methods for our own artistic purpose. This is a class centered around acrylic paint and canvas, however as a class will also play with drawing and collage materials in the form of warm-up exercises and sketching material. There is no experience required for this class only an interest in abstraction and a desire to learn more about acrylic paint, drawing and collage as creative materials. All materials are supplied.
