The705 is helping to revitalize the Community Garden in the historic neighborhood of Freetown. Join us at 10 AM on Sunday February 25 to lend a hand!
Gardening tools, gloves, bags, and water will be provided for volunteers, but feel free to bring your own personal gloves and tools as well! Please park in the Lafayette Business & Career Solution Center parking lot at 706 E. Vermilion Street.
This event is open to 705 members AND non-members. This could potentially turn into one of The705's signature projects for the remainder of 2018 so come on out! Please email Philanthropy@the705.org if you absolutely plan to volunteer!
The Freetown Community Garden sits in the middle of the Freetown-Port Rico neighborhood, which has been designated in the National Register of Historic Places. The National Register status is expected to boost the ongoing redevelopment of the community.
“The historic designation on the National Register not only proves that there is a rich and diverse history in the neighborhood worthy of preserving, but it also encourages people to renovate and preserve their homes with the access to additional historic tax credits that the designation provides,” said Elizabeth “EB” Brooks, chairwoman of the Freetown-Port Rico Coterie, the neighborhood’s planning organization.
