Downtown Alive!

Lafayette’s Original Street Party – Since 1983

DTA! IS BACK WITH OUR SPRING 2021 VIRTUAL SEASON

To ensure the safety of the community, Downtown Lafayette Unlimited is thrilled to announce it will host the 38th season of Downtown Alive! virtually. This 3-part series — presented by Evangeline Maid and sponsored by Super 1 Foods, Lafayette Coca-Cola Bottling Company, and Victor Ashy, APLC — will begin in March and take place on the third Friday of each month.

Inspired by NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts and led by Herman Fuselier of KRVS’ Zydeco Stomp, each DTA! show will highlight Downtown venues and homegrown artists while providing an intimate opportunity to celebrate live, local music.

Each show will be streamed online from the DTA! Facebook page, with concerts beginning at 6 pm. Viewers can also catch an official DTA! watch party at participating Downtown Lafayette locations.

Friday, March 19 | Cupid

Lafayette’s own Cupid, who shuffled his way into the hearts of millions with the up-tempo party song “Cupid Shuffle,” will kick off the Spring 2021 DTA! season on March 19. While his music has filled many a wedding reception and cruise ship onboarding, new singles like “Crawfish” and “Flex” have solidified Cupid as a household name. With a full discography that’s a melting pot of bluesy soul, gospel, rock, and hip-hop, Cupid has a portfolio that impresses and is sure to get viewers on their feet.

Friday, April 16 | Sweet Cecilia

St. Martin Parish is well represented in the second DTA! show on Friday, April 16 with Grammy-nominated artist Sweet Cecilia. The Americana trio dazzles audiences with rock, folk, and Cajun-influenced songs while never running short on tales or charm. It’s truly never a dull moment with this all-female family affair, composed of sisters Laura Berard Huval, Maegen Berard Rankin, and cousin Callie Guidry.

Friday, May 21 | Eric Adcock + Michael Juan Nunez

Abbeville meets Erath in the dynamic duo of Eric Adcock & Michael Juan Nunez for the final Spring DTA! Show on Friday, May 21. Adcock is a Louisiana Roots / Rhythm & Blues pianist and songwriter who funnels inspiration he receives from living in South Louisiana into his songwriting and performances. Nunez, a singer-guitarist-songwriter is known for music that taps into the heart of American southern culture. The two have been friends and musical collaborators for decades — consider this show Vermilion Parish’s own “Storytellers” episode.

HISTORY OF DOWNTOWN ALIVE!

For over three decades, Downtown Alive! (affectionately known as DTA!) has been bringing the party to Downtown Lafayette. What began as a small Friday night street party has evolved into an exciting large-scale concert series attended by thousands of concert-goers. Downtown Lafayette has taken on a new life as the center for great food, live music, arts and culture, and incredible events.

DTA! provides FREE live music for all ages during its active seasons. Spanning genres from Cajun and Creole to Indie Pop, Rock, Soul, Country, Folk, and RnB—DTA! is an event for music lovers of all kinds.

HOW DOWNTOWN STAYED ALIVE

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Downtown Alive! first went virtual during the Spring 2020 season. The DTA! House Sessions, a series of online, stay-at-home Friday night concerts, were created to help support local musicians dealing with event cancellations due to coronavirus restrictions.

After the success of the House Sessions series, DTA! once again went virtual for the Fall 2020 season. Combined, these seasons reached over 200,000 people and kept the community entertained — and safe.

HELP KEEP THE MUSIC ALIVE

Downtown Alive is not possible without generous donations from community leaders like the sponsors above. Do you want to help keep live music coming to Downtown Lafayette every Friday night? Would your business benefit from exposure to thousands of music loving Lafayette citizens? Consider becoming a sponsor of a Downtown event like DTA!
